The first of two matchups between the two Philadelphia based ECBL teams took place on April 24 when the Philly Raiders hosted the Philly Cannons. After trailing by 14 at halftime the Cannons came from behind to win 118-113.
Things were looking good for the home team early as the Raiders got off to a 24-18 lead after one quarter. They increased that advantage in the second to take a 54-40 lead at halftime.
The Cannons (4-3) reversed that deficit and more in the third though, outscoring the Raiders 40-19. They would fight off the comeback attempt during the final frame to secure the victory.
Tyreek Riddick led all scorers in the game with 30 points. Tyree Smith just missed a triple-double scoring 25 points with 11 rebounds and nine assists for the Raiders. Richard Collins (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Shaq Shannon (15 points, eight rebounds, nine assists) were a big part of the Raiders offense.
Isaiah Willmore was one of four players who score 20 points or more with 26. He also grabbed eight rebounds for the Cannons. Nazeer Bostick score 24 while pulling down 10 rebounds while Khayyir Lewis (21) and Jay Hardy (20) helped the balanced attack of the visitors.
Round two between the teams is scheduled for May 8.
A pair of games lies ahead for the Raiders (3-4) who host the Plaistow Shockers on Saturday before traveling to face the Hub City Hogs the following day. Philly Cannons are also in action Saturday when they host the Fredericksburg Grizzlies.
