The Western Mass Zombies clashed with the Red Rose Thunder in the battle for first
place in the Mid-Atlantic Conference on Saturday. It was the second meeting between the two teams this season with the result resebling the first. Western Mass swept the season series after a 138-118 victory.
The Zombies, who were coming off an important home win last week against the Hub City Hogs, looked to keep
their unbeaten home record intact. The Zombies started off slow as Red Rose took an early lead, but that did not last for long. Western Mass shot their way back into it, taking a six point lead at the end of the first.
From there the Zombies didn’t look back, out scoring the Thunder 35-26 in the second and 41-31 in the third to cruise to their fourth win at the South End Community Center.
Leading the way for Western Mass was veteran guards Robby Jones (24 points, four assists) and Tylon Smith
(28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists). Jake Ross added 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists while ECBL rebound leader Malik Petteway finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Terrance Thompson provided the Zombies with a big contribution off the bench scoring 21 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two assists.
