CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Blue Jackets are one win away from an ECBL championship after defeating Kingdom Life Basketball Club 125-117 Saturday evening in the ECBL Elite Bracket Championship at Second Ward High School Gymnasium. The victory secures the Elite Bracket title for the Blue Jackets and earns Charlotte the right to host the 2026 ECBL Championship Game on June 27.
The Blue Jackets entered the postseason as the No. 3 overall seed and continued their strong late-season play by knocking off a Kingdom Life team that had battled its way through the bracket as the No. 7 seed. The victory also completed a perfect championship weekend for Charlotte basketball, setting up a title showdown against the Balling Brothers, winners of the Premier Bracket Championship.
Kingdom Life Basketball Club wasted little time showing why they had become one of the postseason’s biggest surprises, racing out to a 35-32 lead after the opening quarter behind the scoring of Nas Tyson and Duane Goodman. The pace was fast and physical from the start, with both teams pushing the ball in transition and finding success offensively, as Kingdom Life attacked the basket and knocked down perimeter shots to grab the early advantage.
The turning point came in the second quarter when Charlotte’s defense elevated to another level. The Blue Jackets began forcing difficult shots and turning defensive stops into transition opportunities, outscoring Kingdom Life 31-20 in the period to erase the deficit and take a 63-55 lead into halftime. Marquis Gaines spearheaded the surge while Charlotte’s balanced offensive attack created scoring opportunities throughout the lineup, and the eight-point halftime advantage proved critical as Kingdom Life spent the remainder of the game trying to climb back into contention.
Kingdom Life refused to go quietly and mounted several runs during the second half, with Tyson continuing to attack offensively and Victor Tshiona dominating the glass to help trim the deficit on multiple occasions. However, every time the margin began to shrink, Charlotte responded. The Blue Jackets maintained their composure and continued executing offensively, as Eli Smith provided a scoring spark, Ricardo Glenn controlled the paint, and Gaines delivered key baskets to help Charlotte carry a 93-87 lead into the fourth quarter. With a championship berth on the line, the Blue Jackets closed the game with poise, matching every Kingdom Life push and eventually securing the 125-117 victory.
Charlotte placed five players in double figures and received contributions throughout the roster. Gaines led the Blue Jackets with 30 points and eight rebounds while serving as the team’s offensive catalyst. Smith added 24 points and five rebounds, Glenn finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, Warren Vinson contributed 17 points and seven rebounds, and Darlinstone Dubar added 16 points on an efficient shooting night. The Blue Jackets shot 46.7 percent from the field, recorded 15 assists, and committed only eight turnovers while scoring 125 points against one of the league’s toughest postseason opponents.
Although the season ended one game short of the ECBL Championship, Kingdom Life Basketball Club continued to prove why they were one of the most dangerous teams in the postseason. Tyson led KLBC with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, Goodman added 25 points, and Jai Rorie contributed 18 points and seven rebounds. Tshiona recorded a dominant 15-rebound performance, and Zach Rorie finished with 11 points and six assists. The seventh-seeded squad battled throughout the game and never stopped competing despite facing multiple deficits, capping a strong finish to the 2026 season.
With the victory, Charlotte captures the ECBL Elite Bracket Championship and advances to the league championship game for the opportunity to claim the ECBL crown. The Blue Jackets will now host the Balling Brothers in the 2026 ECBL Championship Game on Saturday, June 27, after Balling Brothers claimed the Premier Bracket Championship earlier in the day with a 130-109 victory over the No. 1 seeded Petersburg Cavaliers. Both teams enter the championship game playing their best basketball of the season, with Charlotte looking to defend its home floor while Balling Brothers aims to complete an impressive postseason run. One game remains in the 2026 ECBL season, and the stage is now set for a championship showdown between two of the league’s hottest teams.
