CHARLOTTE, N.C. — June 27, 2026 — The Charlotte Blue Jackets are the 2026 East Coast Basketball League Champions after surviving a furious late comeback by the Balling Brothers to secure a dramatic 102-99 victory Saturday night in the ECBL Championship Game.
The championship matchup featured momentum swings from start to finish before the Blue Jackets made just enough winning plays in the closing seconds to claim the league title.
Charlotte came out aggressively in the opening quarter behind the outstanding play of Darlingstone Dubar, who poured in 13 first-quarter points to ignite the offense and help the Blue Jackets race to a 37-30 advantage after one period.
The Balling Brothers suffered a major setback early when leading scorer Josh Williams exited the game with a foot injury after scoring six of the team’s first eight points. Williams was unable to return, forcing the Balling Brothers to adjust offensively for the remainder of the championship contest.
Despite the injury, Balling Brothers refused to go away. Travis Cooper sparked the offense with 11 second-quarter points, while Darius Dawson added eight as Balling Brothers battled back throughout the period. Charlotte maintained a slim edge heading into halftime, leading 61-58 after an entertaining first half.
The Blue Jackets seized control again in the third quarter thanks to the steady leadership of Christian Nobles. Nobles orchestrated the offense while scoring 10 points during the period, helping Charlotte extend its lead to 82-74 entering the fourth quarter.
Balling Brothers mounted one final championship push in the closing minutes.
Trailing 97-90 with just over two minutes remaining, the Balling Brothers chipped away behind the clutch scoring of Darius Dawson, who scored 13 fourth-quarter points. After a defensive steal by Shakeem White, Mike Smith knocked down a three-pointer to trim the deficit to just 100-99, setting up a dramatic finish.
Charlotte answered on the ensuing possession by isolating Malik Dunbar, whose initial layup attempt rolled off the rim. Dunbar quickly recovered his own miss and tipped the ball back in, extending the Blue Jackets’ lead to 102-99 with only seconds remaining.
Balling Brothers had one more opportunity to force overtime, but Mike Smith’s game-tying three-point attempt missed with nine seconds left. Following a quick foul, Charlotte called timeout and advanced the basketball to midcourt.
The drama wasn’t over.
On the inbound play, Shakeem White came up with another steal, giving Balling Brothers one final possession. White immediately launched a three-pointer that would have tied the championship game, but the attempt was blocked as the final buzzer sounded, sending the Blue Jackets into celebration.
Darlingstone Dubar, who set the tone from the opening tip with his explosive first quarter, finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds and was named the 2026 ECBL Championship Game Most Valuable Player. Christian Nobles added 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals, while Malik Dunbar contributed 19 points, including the game-winning putback in the closing seconds.
For Balling Brothers, Darius Dawson led all scorers with 25 points, Travis Cooper added 15, Lebron Woodbury scored 13, Shakeem White finished with 12, and Mike Smith contributed 10 in the hard-fought championship effort.
The Blue Jackets shot 43.5 percent from the field while holding Balling Brothers to 34.5 percent shooting and survived the late rally to complete an impressive championship run.
With the victory, the Charlotte Blue Jackets captured the 2026 East Coast Basketball League Championship, capping off an outstanding postseason with a thrilling 102-99 victory in one of the most exciting championship games in ECBL history.
